What Are We?

Trio and One is a group of four musicians who meet regularly to play jazz standards and other famous combo songs. The group started out as a trio of a drummer, bassist, and trumpet player. After getting their feet under them, the group gained a vocalist, thus the "and one" was born.

The group enjoys playing jazz standards from the Golden Age of Jazz such as Have You Met Miss Jones, Black Nile, I'm Beginning to See the Light, Beyond the Sea, and more. The group is based in Pella, Iowa and is available for hire for coffee shops, business events, galas and more.

About the Members

Jake Schulte (Vocalist) - Jake is a phenomenal jazz singer whose voice reminds one of the great Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra. Jake has been singing for many years and when introduced to the trio, fit right in to the dynamic of the group

Grayson Parisee (Trumpet) - Grayson has played trumpet for multiple years and tackles many roles within the trio. On many vocal songs, Grayson tackles the role of pianist. On many instrumental songs, Grayson shows off his great brass chops on trumpet and Flugel Horn.

Jack Stratton (Bass) - Jack has been playing bass since 2014 and will study upright bass and music technology at the University of Northern Iowa. Jack is an All-State bassist for the All-State Orchestra for 2019 and participates in band and orchestra at the high school.

Isaac Piersma (Drums) - Isaac has been playing for over 5 years with the trio and jazz band and is a percussionist in concert band. Isaac has been an All-State drummer for the All-State Jazz Band for the past two years and has been awarded numerous recognitions on the state and national levels.

All of the instrumentalists are a part of the Pella Jazz 1, an outstanding High School organization, winning the Iowa Jazz Championships 18 times in the past 40 years.
